Travel Journal Raising Awareness: I spoke at St. Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson, New York and was impressed that their new conference room provided chairs for larger people. The AHA’s 2005 Environmental Assessment included a reference that 66% of Americans are overweight or obese. Some of them are your patients, and some are your employees. At St. Charles, the chairs have the same fabric and construction as other chairs in the room, so the larger person doesn’t feel singled out by choosing a chair that is more comfortable.
