Quotations About Realistic Expectations by Susan Keane Baker
When it became obvious that Boston's "Big
Dig" highway reconstruction project
was going to take longer than expected,
engineers posted a sign reading, "Rome
wasn't built in a day. If it were, we would
have hired their contractor." Providing
information is one of the best ways to adjust
and manage expectations. Here are a few
of my favorite "Big Dig" quotes:
"Expecting the world to treat you
fairly because you are a good person is
a little like expecting the bull not to
attack you because you're a vegetarian."
Dennis Wholey
"To expect life to be tailored
to our specifications is to invite frustration."

"If you keep saying things are
going to be bad, you have a good chance
of being a prophet." Issac Bashevis
Singer
"The quality of our expectations
determines the quality of our actions."
Andre Godin
"Expect people to be better than
they are; it helps them to become better.
But don't be disappointed when they are
not; it helps them to keep trying."
Merry Browne
"Advice would be more acceptable
if it didn't always conflict with our
plans." Anonymous
